Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has made a significant move to support medical professionals in the state by approving the release of over N300m as a grant to 389 resident doctors in the State Civil Service. The funding covers the Residency Training Grant requirements for two consecutive years, 2023-2024.
Each resident doctor will receive payments ranging from N800,000 to N900,000 per year, with a total of 215 resident doctors benefiting from the grant in 2023 and 174 in 2024. This development is expected to boost the morale of resident doctors in the state and enhance the quality of medical training and healthcare services in Rivers State.
With this milestone, Fubara's administration has set a new record in healthcare funding, as residency training grants have only been paid twice in the past 16 years, with the last payment in 2018.
